Our Community and its Mission

The Benedictine Monastery of Tabgha is as a dependent priory part oft the community of Dormition Abbey. We live at Tabgha on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, the place where Jesus multiplied bread and fish and fed a crowd of 5000 men, beside women and children.

Mosaik: Brote und Fische

We especially attend to groups of pilgrims and guests, who are seeking silence and peace for contemplation here in Galilee, the home of Jesus. German conscientious objectors and volunteers are supporting us in our work.

We are taking care of the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves, constructed by the German Association for the Holy Land and dedicated in 1982. Pilgrims and guests are invited to participate in the celebration of the eucharist and in choral prayers.

Dalmanutha

Dalmanutha, a place located directly on the shore of the lake, is also a place for contemplation and prayer where groups of pilgrims have the opportunity to celebrate the eucharist.

Youths groups are offered basic accommodation and an organizationally and spiritually supported program for their stay in Galilee. For individual guests and small groups a few rooms are available in our guest house.

Children, youths and the handicapped from local social institutions can spend a holiday at our Meeting Place.
