On St. Benedict's feast day, March 21st, with our many guests we remembered the arrival of the first three benedictine monks on Mt. Zion, exactly 100 years ago. In the solemn service at the Dormition Church, presided by Abbot Benedikt, two members of our community took their Solemn Vows: Fr. Basilius Schiel OSB and Fr. Jonas Trageser OSB. In 2006 we celebrate the centennial of the foundation of our community with many festivities in the Holy Land and in Germany, starting with St. Benedict's feast day, March 21st, at the Abbey in Jerusalem.
A photo exhibit featuring the images of Father Johannes M. Oravecz OSB, entitled "Yearning for Peace: Glimpses of the Holy Land", debuted at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois on February 11, 2006.
On November 3rd, the Mount
Zion Award 2005 has been presented to Rabbi David Rosen. In his speech
in honor of Rabbi Rosen, Walter Cardinal Casper acknowledged his courage
and perseverance in his work for Christian-Jewish Relations. |
